The Westerville Sleep Center laboratory and its patient-friendly environment comes with some of the latest in sleep technology under the supervision of highly trained sleep professionals. Laboratory technicians are certified by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
Sleep studies can happen during the day or night, depending on your sleep problems. Studies are painless and easy – during a study, you’ll have tiny monitors placed on your scalp, face and legs with washable paste or tape, and you may have some stretchy bands around your chest or stomach.
Sleep tests include:
Polysomnography:Polysomnography is a comprehensive recording of physical changes and activities that occur during sleep. It is usually performed at night, and monitors body functions including brain (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity (EMG), heart rhythm (ECG), and breathing through sensors placed on the face, chest and legs. It is one of the most common types of sleep tests. |

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT): Multiple Sleep Latency Tests are also called “nap studies” and are used to see how quickly you fall asleep in quiet times during the day. Nap studies usually consist of four to five nap opportunities of 15-20 minutes with breaks lasting for two hours in between them.
Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT): Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests are day studies used to measure your ability to stay awake after a good night’s sleep. The MWT consists of four sleep periods with breaks lasting for two hours in between them. For each period, you will sit quietly in bed and try to stay awake for 40 minutes.
